 “Take me back....”

"This is seriously the most gorgeous villa I could truly feel like you are in a picture. Even the food tastes better there...

The villa is immaculately kept, and the grounds are so lovely. There are incredible views from every angle and literally sage, rosemary and lavender bushes sweeping down the sides of the mountain, not to mention the olive trees.

The pool is so beautiful too- the perfect way to spend the afternoon after a morning trip to a local town. Location-wise it's great too- close to Perugia, Deruta, Assisi, Gubbio, Lake Trasimeno ...

The house itself is both stately and cozy (the couches are so comfortable!), and just so rustic Italian. I could sit on the porches and sip coffee/drink wine all day. The caretaker is so lovely too- and the BEST cook!!

The bedrooms are really nicely kept and the little cottage is super cute for a couple. It would be a perfect spot for a group of friends (we want to take a few couples with us next time!) or, as we did, it's a perfect family vacation - something for everyone.

Highly, highly recommend!"

Umbrian Treasure

"In June of 2016, my husband and I spent two wonderful weeks at Villa Santa Caterina to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The house is glorious. There are spectacular views of mountains, castles, vineyards and olive trees from every room in the house, making it the perfect spot for rest, reflection, reading, writing and photography. Whether it was early morning fog, shadows cast from the sunlight, or the clouds that you could reach out and touch, the views were constantly changing and always captivating.

We made regular use of both the spacious and well-equipped kitchen to cook with Umbrian ingredients from the markets (and fresh herbs from the gorgeous gardens on the property), as well as each of the patios facing east, south and west to enjoy morning coffee, long afternoon lunches under the pergola, and evening sunsets complete with delicious local wine.

As much as we loved the house and could have stayed put for the entire two weeks, we also ventured out to visit many of the charming medieval towns that are nearby. Gubbio, Assisi, Todi and others are generally only a half hour's drive and we found their walls, cathedrals, shops, and restaurants to be well worth exploring. For those who love hand-painted Italian ceramics -- and I am one -- this area provides countless opportunities to add beautiful pieces to your collection.

Marga, Villa Santa Catarina's caretaker living in a cottage on the property, was very friendly and extremely helpful to us in making our holiday as enjoyable as possible. She also cooked a special anniversary dinner for us, and other wonderful meals.

Our holiday at Villa Santa Caterina is one that we will never forget. We hope to return to this lovely place for another relaxing Umbrian holiday.."

Stunning and peaceful property

"This is a spectacular home which is every bit as beautiful as the pictures suggest. The main house, the cottage, the pool, and the grounds are all immaculate. The owner Marie was very responsive and the property manager Marga is a delight. Marga bought groceries for us when we had an unexpectedly late arrival and gave helpful advice on restaurants, walks/hikes, and other activities. Our family of 6 spent the mornings and early afternoons sightseeing, then returned to the perfect pool and the stunning views and peace of the Umbrian countryside - we never, ever tired of the views. We highly recommend the property and hope we can return someday."

"The home was amazing, the views were outstanding, even if it was cold and raining outside the home was warm and comfortable and the week in this ******* star home was more than fantastic. Also especially the custodian of the property Marga is a very special Lady with a complete accent to every detail to make sure all our needs were well taken care of. Umbria is absolutely beautiful and we loved our stay and must thank the owner of this wonderful home for allowing us this experience"

"From the moment you arrive at this little paradise on earth, all tensions & troubles dissipate. Your body & mind go into relax mode & stay there no matter whether you just want to lie by the magnificent pool & look at the breath taking mountain range & vineyards below, or go sightseeing.
Plenty of that around like Siena, Perugia, Assisi & many other lovely little towns that are all short drives away. Florence isn't too far either as well as the best discount mall for all the top fashion designers.

The house itself is very spacious with luxurious furnishings. Lots of little nooks & crannies to read, sunbathe or enjoy a drink watching the glorious sunset. Good for a couple or a large group as we were.
Kitchen was a chef's delight & we enjoyed many evenings dining Al fresco where we cooked ourselves or had the meal prepared by Marga, the custodian. Apart from the main house, there is also a self contained charming cottage.
Photos don't do the property justice.

For me, Villa Santa Caterina will always be a place of wonderful, cherished memories spent with close friends & loved ones. We look forward to our next trip there very soon."

Wonderful - highly recommend

"My wife and I have stayed at Santa Caterina twice and can't wait to go back. It is hands down the most beautiful and romantic place we have even been, and we can't wait for our third visit. This is no exaggeration. The location on top of a hill overlooking a valley filled with olive groves, as well as a nearby castle perched precariously on a hill, is absolutely stunning. On clear days, the fact that you can see the cathedral at Assisi in the distance only adds to the magic. At night the stars are infinite.

The house itself is gorgeous, and very beautifully decorated.
I love to cook, and the kitchen is inviting and cozy. You can spend an afternoon cooking overlooking the valley and flowering lavender all over the property. There is even an outdoor stone BBQ and pizza oven to enjoy (I still have not come even close to mastering the pizza oven....).
We spent several afternoons just lying by the beautiful pool, drinking wine and enjoying the view.

The location of the house is also perfect for exploring some of the most beautiful regions of Italy. We took day trips to Assisi, Perugia, Montone and Gubbio, which are all amazing historic towns in Umbria. We also used the house as a base for several forays into Tuscany, to Siena, Florence and Arezzo, all of which are within a 90 minute scenic drive.

Lastly, our trips would not have been nearly as special without the hospitality of Marga and Vic, who take great care of guests and never hesitate to give wonderful local recommendations.

We could not recommend a stay at Santa Caterina more enthusiastically. Once you're there, you will never want to leave. We are already planning our next visit."

"Villa Santa Caterina is a little piece of heaven nestled in the Umbrian hill side. Our honeymoon week stay began with a divine meal of local produce prepared by Marga who is the caretaker on site and an amazing cook. We had driven up from Rome (easy drive) so it was great to have organised this in advance, a great added service if you require it.
The weather was perfect so we made great use of the pool. We used the house as a base for a number of day trips to the many nearby towns. The house is well appointed with everything you need for a relaxing getaway with great attention to detail to make sure the Villa has been restored for an authentic Italian experience. Loved every minute!"

If you want a perfect vacation . . .

"Whether you are in the mood for romance, are in need of rest and relaxation, or are interested in immersing yourself in history, culture and culinary delights, Santa Caterina is the place for you.
Photos cannot do justice to the beauty and tranquility of the property and its surroundings. I would have been perfectly happy spending day after day reading my book by the scenic pool, sipping wine while watching the sun set beyond the hills, and preparing meals with Umbria's delicacies (truffles, yum!). My partner, however, is a history buff and a wine snob. Fortunately, there are countless beautiful villages, towns and cities within short driving distance.
Marga and Vic, the custodians who live on site and speak both Italian and English, are a wealth of information, and can tell you where to go to see the sights, grab a bite, or take a hike.
Personally, I loved Perugia, especially in the evening when the whole town (almost) is strolling on Corso Vannucci, and Arezzo, mainly for its awesome antique market. My partner was enamored with Assisi and its famous basilica, only 20 minutes from the house. Umbria is a place of such beauty and interest that it's one of the few places we agreed we could go back to again and again. And we did! October 2013 was our second trip. And as far as we're concerned, Santa Caterina is the only place to stay."
