About Santa Caterina

Santa Caterina sits high on a hill behind tall cypresses and regal umbrella pines, with breathtaking views in every direction.  Built in the early 18th century and totally restored in 1996, this picturesque property is  comfortably situated between gently rolling hills and farmlands on one side and rugged mountains topped by a 12th century castle on the other. Just seven miles from the charming village of Umbertide, Santa Caterina is centrally located among the medieval towns of Perugia, Gubbio and Assisi.

The property’s fenced and gated compound consists of a main villa and two self contained cottages.  During the restoration, every effort was made to preserve the original character using old, authentic materials whenever and wherever possible.  The bright and spacious interiors are decorated in typical Umbrian/Tuscan style, with wood beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, Oriental rugs and many antique furnishings.

The compound’s infinity swimming pool separates the main villa from the property’s two guest cottages. Its convenient central location provides a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valley, dotted with farmhouses, olive groves and vineyards.  The pool, itself, is surrounded by a beautiful garden full of rose bushes, lavender, and a variety of native, home grown herbs.

The Umbrian region is mostly rural and is dotted with hilltop towns, farmland and forests. Yet this area of Italy is packed with interesting things to see and do. While it is tempting to simply laze around the pool, or take a nap in a handy hammock, our on-site custodians are available to organize yoga retreats, cooking classes or sightseeing tours.

Santa Caterina caters to families with children, groups of friends wishing to share a typically laid- back Italian lifestyle, or honeymooners looking for a bit of heaven on earth.
